George Martin is commonly referred to as the "Fifth Beatle" because of his extensive involvement in each of the Beatles' original albums. Ray played alongside Paul McCartney in a live concert at the Albert Hall Theatre which was arranged by Martin. He also played on the controversial St.Peppers Lonly Hearts Club Film album which featured various artists.

The following year Ray played lead guitar on progressive rock his album Six days in Berlin 1981. Later in 1986 Ray played Guitar on the concept album for Mike Batt's musical The hunting of the Snark which also featured Cliff Richard, Art Garfunkel, Deniece Williams and Julian Lennon later Ray also played for the televised version which featured Billy Connily. In 1990 Ray also played on Mike Batts soundtrack album 'The Dreamstone' which featured Ozzy Osborne, Bonnie Tyler and Billy Connily.

The Secret Policeman's Ball is a series of benefit shows organised by John Cleese, Peter Luff and Martin Lewis to raise funds for the human rights organisation Amnesty International. The shows started in 1976 featuring popular comedians such as the Monty Python Crew, Rowan Atkinson, Billy Connily, Victoria wood and more, but later included leading musicians and actors. Ray played guitar on the 1982 show along side Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, Sting, Bob Geldof, Donovan and more.

The Queen of Rock and Roll Tina Turner - singer, dancer and actress. Recording of her album Private Dancer took place in many recording studios across London. Its production was overseen by different teams but mostly by Heaven 17's Martin Ware and Rupert Hyne. Ray had previously played with Heaven 17 and so was called in by Ware to play on the track Lets Stay Together. The album was refered to as 'Tina's come back' which achieved No.1 in the charts in many countries including the USA where it also achieved 5x Platinum. The track lets stay together was a huge sussess in its own right. It was released as a single and achieved a best seller in Euroup and Billboards No.1 Hot Dance Club Song.

Ray supported British pop-rock duo Marshall Hain on their debut 1978 Album, Free Ride Julian Marshall (keyboardist) and Kit Hain (vocalist and bass player) The 2 met while at school and would sign to Harvest Records where they released the album ‘Free Ride’. The album contained both their UK hits songs with ‘Dancing In The City’ getting to number 6 and ‘Coming Home’ peaking at 29.

Ray and Simon have known each other since they were in a band together when Simon was just 17, it was inevitable Ray and Simon would become life long friends.
Naturally being in a band together, RMS (Ray, Mo Foster and Simon) formed in 1982. Ray and Simon have a lifetime of gigs and recordings together. Simon's albums recorded with Ray include Indian Summer (1995), Symbiosis (1995), Another Lifetime (1997), Live at Freiburg (2009). Ray’s albums recorded with Simon include Protocol, Childscape, Force Majeure and Fluid Architecture.

Heaven 17 secured g the talents of notable session musicians such as Ray Russell, Simon Phillips and Nick Plytas as well as retaining John Wilson, when creating the album 'The Luxury Gap’. Ray played guitar and guitar synthesiser on the album and struck a good relationship with the band and was approached to play on the album 'How Men Are' in 1984. Then in 1986, when Heaven 17 teamed with Tina Turna to create her comeback album, they turned to ray again to play on track 'Let's Stay Together'.

Ray had the pleasure of performing with and composing for, the legendary Blues/Rock guitarist, Gary Moore. On the 8th Aug 1982, Ray and Mo Foster were recording at the Townhouse Studios in Sheperd's Bush, they recorded and played the instrumental ballad 'So Far Away'. A sound engineer working for Gary played him the track; He loved it! Gary often played the track live and included it as a prelude to 'Empty Rooms'. In 1982 Gary called on Ray and Mo to contribute to his track 'Falling For You''. Then in 1988 Mo Foster called on Ray to play and compose and asked Gary Moore to play on his album The Bel Assis. In 2009 Ray and Mo now joined by Ralph Salmins and Jim Watson played an open air festival in aid of cancer research. They asked Gary to join them for the event which he did without hesitation.
